“BACCHON KI KACHERI”
(A play by Keshav Chandra Verma)
Directed by Mrs Uma Bhat
In a world of innocence and adulthood, the children feel that they are being bullied by the adults, which they consider to be unfair. So the children decide to get together and take the matter to the courts, filing a case against the adults with whom they have problems on a daily basis.
The first case is against the gardener, who is accused of shouting at the children, chasing them away and not permitting them to play in the garden.
The session begins with the children demanding that the gardener be hanged or exiled. The gardener pleads his innocence, saying it is his duty to keep the children out of the garden. As such, he asks to be forgiven since it is his first crime.
After analyzing the merits of the arguments on both sides, the judge decides to pardon the gardener with certain conditions: (1) The children should not be stopped from playing in the garden, (2) He should give them fifty guavas and (3) On Sundays he should not be seen anywhere near the garden.
